Large Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis polychloros)

This Large Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis polychloros) was just one of a few hundred who were out and about in the Ellerbach valley on the Moselle on this very hot summer's day. They often sat sucking on the gravel path together with Commas (Polygonia c-album) and Lesser Purple Emperors (Apatura ilia).
