Sunbathing Camberwell Beauty (Nymphalis antiopa)
In late March, Robert Petschar came across three Camberwell Beauties (Nymphalis antiopa) in the Grosses Walsertal, a biosphere reserve with rare animals and plants. The V-valley there is crossed by the River Lutz, which still had plenty of water even in this dry month in 2022. The Camberwell Beauties (Nymphalis antiopa) were quite localised. You can clearly see that the blue spots change colour between purple and light blue in the sunlight. You can also see the fine hairs that cover the small butterfly's body.
